Anouar Ben Hassine
A dedication for the great poet, Saadi Youssef, who left us on 12 June 2021. May he rest in peace.
You passed away
Everything comes to an end
But words never die
They stay in the soft soil of memory
The poems never surrender to death
They remain a pure spirit of all
When a poet leaves
There’s a leaf somewhere fade
You might have gone away
But you are not leaving
When the sun goes down
Your crystal rhythm appears like rays
In the unreachable distance
Now, we watch your soul rise
From another universe
There, at the dawn of Tigris River
You become free from all chains
Flying with metaphor’s wings
And your voiceless language
Touches the Euphrates riversides
All waterfronts miss your whispers
Words get up louder
Hosting reckless voices of the ocean
You are like a fabulous palm tree
Growing in the unknown
Bigger than you can imagine
Through splendid arms of imagination
The poet’s dream goes round the earth
To freed up the old capitals
And fill the sky with hopes
Beyond the curtains of London’s mist
Your last words shine in the sea caverns
Engrave the missing meaning
To release the land of exhausted selves
Waiting for such a dream
That no more exists
Saadi Youssef, you will stay alive in the hearts
We follow your path to meet triumph
To carry the spark of wonder
To belong to no time.
